Your podcast was right on point. I agree that the standards are messed up. I enjoyed the fact you mentioned about how successful students are moved up one grade when they transfer from California to another state. You were very informative and truthful.

hey leah

you really did your homework. great job on the research on standards-based instruction in the classroom. i have often openly questioned the concept of teaching standards with the time that we have, the picture in my mind being a mile wide and an inch thick. oh, don't get me started.

i was captured by the question you posed, allow me to quote: "Are you insane?"

ciao! bigjoe

Your podcast was quite enjoyable is it hit on a subject that probably perplexes most teachers. I agree with your assesment of the standards not matching student learning; my District allots one day to integers. Also, bigjoe, I certainly disagree with the concept of bulldozing through the standards regardless of whether or not the kids understand what was taught.

Leah,
YOu crack me up. I thought that yoour podcast was right on and I would like for more teachers to listen to it. I think that California does have some strict Standards, but like you said, they grow so much when they move to another state. Reason being, are the standards that we do teach them. When I was thinking about moving to Georgia, I was looking to the teaching profession and- oh man- they were so excited to get a teacher from California. Good job and have a great summer.

Hey Leah,
You did a great job on your podcast. I think that every teacher should listen to your podcast. I know that CA has some strict Standards, but as you can see that when children go to the other states, they can achieve better because they have been taught a well designed program. Have a good summer and I will talkt to you later in class.

My wife and I listened to this on the way to get gas in the car. You got her talking about NCLB and how no teacher seems to like it :-)
Keep Whine-ing it up :-)

Enjoyed it.

Thank you for the compliments, My hope is to continue my whine on occassion, especially when something really gets to me. It's great stress relief. What do you guys think of testing?!?!

Testing? you ask this the last week of class! We could have blogged for 5 weeks on this and I bet very few would have nice things about the New way we do it. I am a fan of testing, but not like how we do it now.
