hello alldredge of riverside

first mistake (not you!) do not listen to a podcast from dialup...it takes about 73 minutes to upload a six minute talk! oy vay!

i will get a better chance to listen to the whole thing tomorrow nite because poems from a substitute interest me greatly. everything in your show notes is worth a listen.

later leah, bigjoe

Leah,
I enjoyed your music in the beginning and end of the interview.Your content was most interesting, as I spent almost two years subing in K-12 grade classes.Your husband's comments on lack of lesson plans or seating charts were right on the mark; nothing like going into a class where you do not know the kids without a seating chart.

Your interview flowed well, however, your mic was picking up the consanants and exhales quite well. This is probably due to the distance of the mic from your mouth; just have about 3 or 4 inches from your mouth.

I think that this was a great interview idea. I think my staff would like to hear this :-)
I noticed that your mic had a lot of issues with static or popping, maybe you could benefit from the el'chepo POP filter in fron of it. See my site (http://www676engman.blogspot.com) Session 7 for instructions from DiscoverEdu on how to make one, it helps a ton.
Great interview.

Leah,

Great interview. You husband provided a lot of practical tips.

It is interesting to gain a perspective into other school district's substitute teacher procedures.

Interestingly, it sounded like you had vocal member in the audience. ;)

Lastly, I had a similar experience catching a garter snake, but in the wild.

Leah,
I enjoyed your husband's humor regarding the Sub issue. I admire the guy-- I've been teaching nine years, and there isn't any kind of chance I would ever take up subbing. In my opinion, it's even harder than my job.

I especially found the snake story entertaining-- my wife is a biologist and loves the creepy-crawly scene. I personally have a mortal fear of snakes & spiders myself. As for the practical advice from a sub's point of view, I know I have a few things I ought to make better in my own plans when I have a sub. It was a valuabe help. Thanks.

Well, my husband was eager to oblige. His hope that this will get back to as many teachers as possible and make the world of subbing not so terrifying.
I agree, I actually subbed for about 9 months and never want to do that again

hi leah

what a character you found as a subject for your interview podcast. he was obviously experienced as a substitute teacher and pronounced many verdicts on this side of the moon.

you employed a good variety of questions which allowed your subject to enter into a good number of categories involving this highly maligned subculture of education.

ciao! bigjoe
