This is one show produced by Discovery radio. The series is a once a week show that discusses current science topics. It has different segments starting with the news and moving onto the more in depth study. It includes interview from recognized scholars in the topics and isn’t afraid to critique the current trends. The topics are interesting and because they are current they would be great for the classroom bringing your students out of the book and into the world.
The professionally produced show includes music interludes between segments and a number of hosts that trade off doing segments. It’s actually interesting that the interviews do not seem as professional. It is obvious that the interviewer and interviewee are in separate studios using vastly different microphones (sound quality). The editing is done well and the segments are just long enough that you don’t lose interest. Also, just a tip you could isolate one segment and use it in the classroom rather than making students listen to the entire show at once. The approximately 30 minute show is produced weekly in Australia.

Leah,
I liked listening to your podcast. I felt that your comments on sound quality and lack of professionalism were right on. However, I think that added a little something to the interest factor. I was able to follow along and actually learning something- which doesn't come very often. :) Good job, and glad to see that your internet is back up and working.

Wow, this podcast sounds good. You did a great job of promoting this podcast. Im using your link to listen to it right now. thanks
I like how you looked at this from a few points of view. I also like the tip for us. If we can use all our tips from this class, we all will become awesome podcasters. Dale
hey leah
very interesting review of this podcast. i am guessing that you are a science teacher. how excellent that you could use one part of the science segment and bring it into your classroom for immediate implementation.
you gave some good tips. i particularly respect and appreciate the critique & info you passed onto robert lynn (ETEC 676).
remember to keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.

Leah,
Thanks for posting your review of this podcast. I really enjoyed the deconstruction of a film. In particular, the diffusion crew did a great job at explaining tough concepts (thermodynamics in the Matrix and the use of negative energy in black holes/worm holes in Contact).
A few years back I read Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time and The Universe in a Nutshell and found them quite intriguing. I would have appreciated Contact more had I read the book before hand.
Great job.
Hello Leah,
This podcast is a good example of providing a variety of news topics in an entertainment format.
The transitions are interesting. There are multiple announcers, but the segmented approach is used carefully and avoids any listener confusion.
Your tip of isolating “one segment and using it in the classroom rather than making students listen to the entire show” is a great idea!

Good job! I'm glad you are getting back on the Internet too... I depend on it!
Me too! The whole no internet thing was driving me insane. The 2 other teachers that do not have internet at my school have been trying to conspire to put a wireless hub on the roof on the weekend. Of course that would require us not to get caught, but I think it may be do able (I can always hope)
